Prudential Life Assurance Zambia has donated K50,000 to Namalombwe Primary and Secondary School’s Special Unit in Lusaka West to improve learning conditions for children with special educational needs.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Namalombwe Primary and Secondary School on 4 August, attended by the Zambian Business Times – ZBT, Prudential Life Assurance Zambia Chief Distribution Officer, Blessed Chisenga Mwansa said the donation was raised through the Green Buffaloes Golf Club fundraising tournament and reflects the company’s commitment to education.
Mwansa said as Prudential celebrates its 10th anniversary, the company remains committed to investing in communities.
“Education remains one of our key strategic pillars, and by supporting initiatives such as this one, we are investing not only in a school but in the dreams, talents and potential of every learner who walks through its gates,” he said.
Mwansa added that the initiative demonstrates what can be achieved through partnerships, stating that the successful fundraising tournament was made possible through collaboration with Green Buffaloes Golf Club and the Zambia Army.
Meanwhile, Namalombwe Primary and Secondary School Headteacher, Major Ingrid Mazombwe thanked Prudential, Green Buffaloes Golf Club and other partners for remembering vulnerable learners, describing the donation as a timely intervention for the school.
Major Mazombwe revealed that the school’s Special Unit currently has 50 learners, including boarders, but continues to face serious challenges such as inadequate classroom seating, shortages of expensive braille paper, insufficient learning materials and limited specialised teaching equipment.
She further disclosed that the school also struggles to provide food for learners during learning hours and lacks funds to pay a medical helper responsible for maintaining hygiene among the children with special needs.
“It is heart-warming to know that our problems are receiving attention through the donation that we have received today,” said Major Mazombwe.
She assured the sponsors that the funds would be used solely for the intended purpose.
“On behalf of the school management, I assure you that this donation received today will be used towards the benefit of the special learners as intended,” said Major Mazombwe.
