Airtel Money now on Stanbic POS

Stanbic Bank and Airtel Money have launched a groundbreaking integration that enables Airtel Money customers to make payments directly from their mobile wallets at merchants using Stanbic Bank’s Point of Sale (POS) machines. This collaboration is poised to become a pivotal development in Zambia’s ongoing transition towards a cash-light economy.

The new solution merges two of Zambia’s most influential financial ecosystems, allowing seamless transactions between mobile money and traditional banking platforms.

With mobile money usage deeply woven into the fabric of everyday commerce, especially among the unbanked and underbanked, this integration provides a unified payment channel that eliminates the need for businesses to juggle separate systems.

Customers can now authorize payments from their Airtel Money wallets using their mobile devices, with merchants receiving instant transaction confirmations via Stanbic’s POS terminals. This streamlines the payment process, reduces manual handling, and enhances transaction transparency and reconciliation for businesses.

Speaking at the launch event, Airtel Money Country Director Andrew Chuma emphasized the partnership’s role in advancing digital payments.

“By integrating Airtel Money with Stanbic Bank’s POS network, we are giving customers the freedom to transact seamlessly, offering a simple, secure, and instant way to pay using the mobile devices they already rely on every day,” Chuma stated.

Stanbic Bank’s Head of Business and Commercial Banking, Chanda Mwila, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the shift in consumer payment preferences and the necessity for practical digital commerce solutions.

“This collaboration reflects our continued investment in practical digital solutions that make it easier for businesses and customers to transact, and responds directly to the way people increasingly choose to pay,” Mwila said.

The Stanbic-Airtel Money integration is expected to accelerate Zambia’s digital payments landscape, fostering financial inclusion and empowering both businesses and consumers with greater flexibility and convenience.
