The Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) has recently seen continued fluctuations in market turnover, with the latest figures from Stockbrokers Zambia indicating a turnover of K5.9 million ($327,000) for the period ending 10 July 2026. Over 853,000 shares were traded during this time, marking a notable decrease compared to previous periods.
A market expert, who spoke to Zambian Business Times (ZBT) on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, explained that the Lusaka Stock Exchange All Share Index (LASI) reflects the overall performance and total turnover of all companies listed on the exchange. The expert emphasized that market turnover is closely linked to the share prices of listed companies.
“The Lusaka Stock Exchange Index represents the collective performance of all listed companies. When certain companies experience significant drops in share prices, it can have a negative impact on the overall index performance,” the expert stated.
She further noted that an increase in the number of companies suffering declines in share prices tends to trigger a decrease in overall market turnover and affects the LASI accordingly. “If companies with a substantial influence on the LASI continue to see falling share prices, we can expect the market turnover to keep declining. Conversely, when share prices recover or increase, market turnover tends to improve as well,” she added.
