Nkwazi Chess Club Coordinator Maybin Chinama has revealed that Lusaka Province will be hosting an independence tournament which is highly regarded for ranking.
Speaking in an interview with the Zambian Business Times ZBT, Chinama, who is also part of the administration for Lusaka Golf, indicated that various teams across the province are expected to participate.
He revealed that the first prize is K20, 000, second prize K15, 000 and the third prize K10, 000. Apart from these prizes, there will be individual awards for the best female and male player and the tournament will take place from 17th – 19th.
“The teams will be in groups of four, a total of 15. We will have quarters and then semis, and the four teams in the semis will claim the prizes,” he revealed.
“The value of this tournament is to enable better rating for the players, it will be graded by the world chess Federation and according to how the players perform they will be given some rating.
