KANONA PUSHES ENERGY EDUCATION AS A BRIDGE TO UNIVERSAL ACCESS

The rural-urban divide goes beyond infrastructure and amenities. It extends to who gets access to information.

For the 2026 Energy Week, Kanona Power worked to close that gap by taking practical lessons on clean energy, conservation and sustainable power directly to learners in non-urban schools.

At Caritas Convent Secondary School in Kabwe; Kapiri Girls STEM School in Kapiri Mposhi and later at Mukubwe Secondary School in Ngabwe District, learners took part in lively quiz competitions on Zambia’s energy landscape, jointly-run by Kanona Power and the Ministry of Energy.

The questions covered renewable generation, energy conservation and the part young people can play in shaping the country’s power future. The learners’ enthusiasm was remarkable, and Kanona encouraged them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, with a bias towards energy, a sector critical to Zambia’s economic growth and industrial development.

Meanwhile, opening the Energy Week Exhibition at the Mukuyu Tree grounds in Kabwe, under the theme “Bridging the Energy Gap: Accelerating Universal Access and Industrialisation,” Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Prof. Ephraim Munshifwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access and strengthening energy security, and urged the private sector to keep investing in rural and underserved communities.

Kanona’s school outreach was aimed at inspiring young Zambians to help build a sustainable, reliable and resilient energy future.
