After Australia, UK has now banned social media for under 16, Should Zambia do the same?

Zambia Institute of Mass Communication sociology lecturer, John Lengwe has indicated that while Zambia could consider restricting social media access for children under the age of 16, enforcing such a ban would be extremely difficult due to technological and monitoring limitations.  The comment comes after the United Kingdom announced on June 15, 2026, that children under 16 will be banned from accessing social media platforms including TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and X from Spring 2027, citing concerns over mental health, harmful content and addictive platform designs.
