Thousands of Zambian farmers may be unaware that selling certified seed beyond nine months from its date of certification is illegal, unless the seed is retested and recertified by regulators. This little-known provision, part of Zambia’s seed regulatory framework, aims to protect farmers from purchasing seed whose quality and viability can no longer be guaranteed.
