Kansanshi Mining Plc (a subsidiary of First Quantum Minerals – FQM) has demonstrated its commitment to local economic development in Zambia, with the mine alone procuring over US$72 million per month from Zambian-registered suppliers in 2024.
This means that the mine spent close to a billion dollars ($864 million) annually on Zambian-registered suppliers. According to Kansanshi Mining Corporate Affairs Superintendent, Ryan Ellis, this investment underscores FQM’s strategy of “Buying Zambian” and fostering economic empowerment within the country.
