Govt, ZRA exposed as gold worth over $800m exported from Zambia without a trace

In 2023, Zambia exported gold worth $1.7 billion to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) alone, but the Ministry of Mines and Customs data from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) only recorded paltry exports, which have not led to gold mineral taxes contributing anything significant
to the treasury.


According to customs and country data reported by the Observatory of Economic Complexity
(OEC), Zambia’s gold exports to the UAE have been growing and are dominated by gold, and then followed by refined copper.
